The role of the principal as a leader is very important to encourage the success of the Driving School Program. This study aims to find out how the principal carries out his role in encouraging the successful implementation of the driving school program at SMAN 1 Menganti Gresik and what factors can support and hinder. This research was a descriptive qualitative approach. The results showed that the principal of SMAN 1 Menganti Gresik carried out his role of collaborating with other schools in community of practice. The school principal also become educator, manager, administrator, leader, supervisor, innovator, motivator, facilitator, communicator. Factors that can support in carrying out this role are: human resources competence, harmony and mutual cooperation with teachers, guidance and support from the government, the enthusiasm of students in learning and working. The factors that can be an obstacle are: learning is not optimal because it is affected by the COVID-19 virus pandemic, some students are less active, the lack of reference models for implementing the driving school program and the need for funds for working on project assignments
