Abstract

The implementation of a multicultural curriculum is an educational approach that accommodates diversity in religion, culture, ethnicity, and social background within the learning process. This curriculum not only emphasizes diverse learning materials but also integrates cultural arts and local traditions to preserve and develop existing cultural values. The implementation of such a curriculum requires proper planning and conceptualization to support the development of students’ religious character. This study aims to examine: 1) the implementation of a multicultural curriculum in enhancing students’ religious character at SMP Negeri 3 Bancar, Tuban Regency, and 2) the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting its implementation. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method to describe and analyze the implementation process based on data obtained from interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis techniques included data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the implementation of the multicultural curriculum involves three main stages: program development, instructional implementation, and evaluation of learning outcomes. Program development includes annual, monthly, and daily planning activities. Instructional implementation is adapted to students’ religious differences, particularly for Muslim and Christian students. Learning evaluation is conducted after program implementation. Supporting factors include the school environment, student enthusiasm, institutional support, teacher performance, parental involvement, and adequate facilities. Inhibiting factors include community perceptions, limited funding, shortage of teaching staff, and inadequate infrastructure. The curriculum implementation also strengthens collaboration between the school and institutions such as GPdI Efrata Jatirogo Church, Jatirogo Karawitan Studio, and Jatirogo Dance Studio.
