Biopore Infiltration Holes, Kitchen Waste ManagementAbstract
This community assistance activity aimed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and awareness of the residents of Tampo Village regarding kitchen waste management through the utilization of biopore infiltration holes as a simple, affordable, and sustainable household-based alternative for organic waste treatment. A Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach was employed by actively involving the community in problem identification, action planning, the construction and utilization of biopore infiltration holes, and joint reflection. The activity was conducted over a period of 40 days (July–August 2026) in Tampo Village, Cluring District, Banyuwangi Regency. Data were collected through participatory observation, brief interviews, documentation, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and were subsequently analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach. The program successfully increased community participation in sorting organic waste at the source, reduced the volume of waste disposed of at landfills, improved groundwater infiltration, and produced natural compost that was utilized for household garden plants. Residents began adopting the habit of independently managing kitchen waste. The village government also supported plans to replicate the program in public facilities, such as the village hall and school environments, as part of efforts to ensure the program’s sustainability.
