Correction and Retraction Policy

Correction and Retraction Policy

AL-MAQASHID: Journal of Economics and Islamic Business is committed to maintaining the accuracy, credibility, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly record. The journal follows the principles and guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in addressing errors, inaccuracies, ethical concerns, and research misconduct identified in published articles.

The journal recognises that corrections and retractions are essential mechanisms for preserving the reliability of scientific publications. All concerns regarding published articles will be evaluated fairly, objectively, and transparently.

1. Correction Policy

Corrections may be issued when errors or inaccuracies are identified in a published article but do not significantly affect the overall validity, reliability, or conclusions of the research.

Corrections may be considered in the following circumstances:

Errors in data presentation, statistical calculations, tables, figures, or references that do not substantially alter the research findings.

Inaccuracies in author information, institutional affiliations, acknowledgments, or funding statements.

Minor methodological or analytical errors that require clarification without invalidating the principal conclusions.

Errors in the interpretation or presentation of research findings that can be appropriately corrected.

Other unintentional errors that require correction to maintain the accuracy of the published scholarly record.

Authors who identify errors in their published articles must promptly notify the Editorial Office and provide a clear explanation of the errors and the proposed corrections.

The Editorial Board will evaluate the significance of the errors and determine whether a formal correction notice is necessary.

Approved corrections will be published transparently and linked to the original article. The correction notice will identify the relevant article and clearly explain the changes made.

2. Retraction Policy

Retraction is a formal mechanism used to correct the scholarly record when a published article contains serious errors, unreliable findings, or substantial violations of research and publication ethics.

AL-MAQASHID: Journal of Economics and Islamic Business may consider retracting an article under the following circumstances:

Data Fabrication or Falsification: The article contains fabricated, falsified, or manipulated research data that compromise the reliability of its findings.

Plagiarism: The article contains substantial plagiarism or unauthorised use of another person's intellectual work.

Duplicate or Redundant Publication: The article has been previously published elsewhere without appropriate disclosure, justification, or editorial permission.

Serious Methodological Errors: Significant errors in research design, data collection, analysis, or interpretation render the findings or conclusions unreliable.

Research Ethics Violations: The research involves serious ethical violations, including the failure to obtain necessary ethical approval or informed consent when required.

Authorship or Peer-Review Manipulation: The publication involves fraudulent authorship, fabricated reviewer identities, manipulated peer review, or other serious publication misconduct.

Undisclosed Conflicts of Interest: Significant undisclosed conflicts of interest have materially compromised the integrity or reliability of the published work.

Other Serious Ethical Violations: Any other circumstances that substantially undermine the validity, credibility, or integrity of the published article.

Retraction may be initiated by the authors, editors, institutions, or other parties who provide credible evidence of serious errors or ethical violations.

Retraction is intended to correct the scholarly record and protect readers from unreliable findings, rather than to punish authors.

3. Expression of Concern

An Expression of Concern may be issued when substantial questions arise regarding the reliability or ethical integrity of a published article, but sufficient evidence is not yet available to justify a correction or retraction.

An Expression of Concern may be considered when:

Serious allegations of research misconduct are under investigation.

Available evidence raises significant concerns about the reliability of the published findings.

An investigation remains inconclusive despite reasonable efforts to obtain relevant information.

Further investigation by the authors' institutions or other relevant authorities is necessary.

The Editorial Board will assess the available evidence and determine whether an Expression of Concern should be published.

Once the investigation is completed, the journal may issue a correction, retract the article, or publish an appropriate notice explaining the resolution of the concerns.

4. Procedures for Corrections and Retractions

The journal follows a systematic editorial procedure when addressing concerns regarding published articles.

Step 1: Reporting and Initial Assessment

Authors, reviewers, readers, or other interested parties may report potential errors or ethical concerns to the Editorial Office through the journal's official communication channels.

Reports should include the article title, author information, DOI or publication URL, a description of the concern, and relevant supporting evidence.

Step 2: Editorial Evaluation

The Editorial Board will conduct an initial assessment to determine the nature, seriousness, and credibility of the reported issue.

Step 3: Author Clarification

The corresponding author and other relevant parties may be contacted to provide explanations, original data, supporting documentation, or additional information.

Authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond to the concerns raised.

Step 4: Investigation

Where necessary, the Editorial Board may consult independent experts, reviewers, affiliated institutions, or other relevant authorities to assist in evaluating the matter.

Step 5: Editorial Decision

Based on the available evidence, the Editorial Board will determine whether the article requires a correction, an Expression of Concern, a retraction, or no further action.

Step 6: Publication of Editorial Notice

If corrective action is necessary, the journal will publish an appropriate notice that clearly identifies the affected article and explains the reasons for the editorial decision.

5. Retraction Notice and Article Accessibility

When an article is retracted, AL-MAQASHID: Journal of Economics and Islamic Business will publish a formal retraction notice that is clearly identifiable and freely accessible to readers.

The retraction notice will include:

The title and bibliographic information of the retracted article.

The names of the article's authors.

A clear explanation of the reasons for retraction.

Identification of the party or parties responsible for issuing the retraction.

A direct link to the original article, including its DOI or URL where available.

Retracted articles will generally remain accessible in the journal's archives to preserve the scholarly record. However, they will be clearly marked as "RETRACTED" and linked to the corresponding retraction notice.

Complete removal of a published article will be considered only in exceptional circumstances, such as legal requirements, serious privacy violations, or significant risks arising from the continued availability of the material.

6. Responsibilities of Authors and Editors

Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, originality, and ethical integrity of their published research. Authors must promptly inform the Editorial Office when significant errors or ethical concerns are discovered after publication.

Authors are expected to cooperate with editorial investigations and provide necessary clarification or supporting evidence.

Editors are responsible for evaluating reported concerns objectively, maintaining confidentiality where appropriate, and making decisions based on credible evidence and established publication ethics principles.

Editorial decisions regarding corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions must be made independently and without inappropriate influence from authors, institutions, sponsors, or other interested parties.

7. Transparency and Publication Integrity

AL-MAQASHID: Journal of Economics and Islamic Business is committed to ensuring that corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions are handled transparently and in accordance with recognised scholarly publishing standards.

All formal editorial notices will be made publicly accessible and linked to the relevant published articles whenever technically possible.

The journal will take reasonable steps to ensure that article metadata and relevant indexing information are updated when necessary.

By implementing this policy, the journal seeks to protect the accuracy of the scientific record, promote responsible research practices, and maintain public confidence in scholarly publications in Islamic economics and business.
